A training needs assessment is an investigative tool that will ultimately tell you the who, what, when, where, why and how of a training project. Also called a “gap analysis,” the goal of a needs assessment is to determine the current performance versus the desired performance. The gap between the two is the learning that has to happen, and the basis for the training design. It happens often enough that a manager or company leader wants specific training to “fix” some performance problem. Since training can’t resolve everything (e.g., bad attitudes or obsolescence), a well-done needs assessment will tell you if training is really the answer.

The Sexton & Company team works with your organization’s subject matter experts and other key team members to get to the root of the matter.  When training is indeed the answer, we’ll identify the learning gaps and develop learning objectives as the basis to launch an effective training program.
